University Approved
by the Ministry of Education (formerly State Education
Commission). Shaoxing University was founded in April 1996 on
the basis of the amalgamation of several institutions of higher
learning, chiefly Shaoxing Teachers College and Shaoxing
Advanced Professional College. The University, sited on the
southwestern side of Shaoxing, a historic city widely know for
its deep cultural deposits, is a local multidisciplinary
university growing in both popularity and strength. The
University can be traced back to Shankuai Primary Normal School
founded in 1909, the first year of the reign of Emperor Xuantong
of Manchu dynasty (1644-1911). LuXun (1881-1936), the greatest
modern Chinese writer and a native of Shaoxing, once supervised
the school as educational inspector. The University has been
forging ahead vigorously in the past decades. And the year of
1999 and succeeding years have witnessed the unprecedented
growth and development of the University in overall strength and
scale. |
